Innovation, Housing, and Hope: Geelong’s Showcase Event

On Monday 11 August, the community of Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula rallied behind the idea of building connected communities with our modular pod solution to the housing challenges Australia is currently facing.

Hosted at the historic Ford Factory, the Nexus Communities Showcase brought together leaders from government, industry, and the community. Attendees were given a guided tour of one of our modular pods, with the chance to see all of its features firsthand and to understand what’s possible when housing puts people first.

We were honoured to welcome Libby Coker MP, Alison Marchant MP, and Stretch Kontelj, Mayor of Geelong, alongside valued industry partners Claire Richards (KPMG), David Buchanan (Australian Steel Association), Tohme Hayek (Genis Steel), Suren Thurairajah (OCTES), and Kane Nuttall with his team from The Power in You Project. OCTES shared their hydrogen power solutions for off-grid living, while Genis Steel showcased the potential of light-gauge steel to deliver strength, sustainability, and efficiency in modular construction. A special thanks also to our MC, Roxie Bennett, and to our community partners, media, and friends who helped make the day a success.

As Libby Coker MP noted, “innovation is central to our region’s identity” — and this event was a clear example of that spirit in action. From sustainable design to job opportunities, the showcase highlighted how modular housing can deliver affordable, dignified solutions while supporting local manufacturing and employment.

When thoughtful citizens connect, connection becomes community — and community becomes change.
